With summer nearly over, you would have finished with the yearly spring cleaning of your house. But have you wrapped up all the necessary maintenance work that need to be done before the rains hit? Be it plumbing, electrical, flooring or painting it’s definitely best to get all such work finished and double checked before the rains start.
Call your regular electrician to take a look at your electricals in general. You would have serviced your ACs as soon as summer set in, but what about your fans? Ask your electrician to clean and check your fan’s capacitor and motor and such, as well as the wirings and the fuse boxes of your home to see that all is indeed fine.
Your plumber will need to come over and do a quick fix of leaky taps. But also ask him to check the entire house for damp spots or tell him of it if you have spotted such areas. He will also need to do a thorough check of all the water lines to see there are no evident blockages. Remind him to refill the bathroom corners and tiles with grout so that you get no complaints from neighbours downstairs. This will also help keep the bugs at bay.
If there are damp areas on your walls and ceilings, now is the time to get it all fixed. Once the rains start, the dampness will spread and fungus might also form. This is definitely a bad thing, especially if there are kids or elders with respiratory problems in the house. Do remember to check your wardrobes and kitchen cupboards too for dampness and rust.
Now is also the time to get the house repainted. The weather is ideal for it. Remember to use a proper weather coat for your exteriors. A good waterproof paint might also be just the trick to take care of the menace of damp areas on the walls or ceilings. You don’t want the dampness issue haunting you every now and then, so do talk to an expert to find a lasting solution.
For those with pets, remember to not just air out your pet’s bedding and clothing, but also to give them a good dose of hot summer sun. This will definitely take care of bugs and mites and any unwanted odour that might have been thinking of showing up.
You might have already wrapped up your spring cleaning, but it would be a good idea to try and give your rugs, cushions and pillows and even your mattresses a good day out in the sun if possible. Windowsills, balconies and even terraces might be a good place to do this. But hey! Don’t say we didn’t warn you about bird poop
